My Contract Expired But I’m Still With Ybnl, Says Adekunle Gold by johneewalker: 11:54am On 5 May

Urban highlife singer Adekunle Gold says he’s still with YBNL despite his contract having expired.

Gold, like Lil Kesh, signed a two-year contract with the Olamide Adedeji-led record label.

While Lil Kesh announced the end of his deal with YBNL in 2016, Gold has failed to follow suit, giving life to series of speculation.

But in a recent chat with HIP TV, the ‘Ariwo Ko’ singer offered some clarity on his situation.

“My contract expired, that’s it,” he said, adding that, “When that happens, you either discontinue or you don’t. Olamide said it times without number that he signs his artistes for two years.

Gold noted that it is imperative for relatively established acts to make way for budding artistes to use the platform of YBNL to push their craft.

“Olamide is grooming aritstes. Shout out to him. He has helped me, he’s put me and Lil Kesh on and now he has other artistes to cater for. There’s YBNL princess and there’s Davolee,” he said.

“It’s normal. He can’t do too many people at the same time and we somehow, God has blessed us and we feel it is time for us to move.

“My contract expired but I’m still with YBNL. YBNL is not a label, it’s a family, it’s a movement.”

The ‘Nurse Alabeere’ singer said he still maintains regular communication with his former label boss.

“Olamide still calls me and we talk. There’s no bad blood,” he added.

When Lil Kesh decided to start his record label, Gold had spoken in the same vein in an interview with TheCable Lifestyle.

He had said: “There’s no such thing as former label mate. He is still with YBNL, he just has his own platform as well. We’re still very cool. We’re still almost on the same shows together. We travel together. Kesh is pretty much with YBNL.”

Olamide, in November 2016, signed Shokoya Oluwasegunfunmi David, a street-hop artiste known as Davolee, to YBNL.
