Health / Sokoto Gets N3bn Items To Fight Malaria by johneewalker: Last week on Tue at 05:18pm
Sokoto state government says it has received items worth N3 billion to tackle malaria in the state, even as it is working to achieve malaria control by 2020.

The state’s Health Commissioner, Dr Balarabe Kakale disclosed this while speaking on the ongoing fight against malaria in the state.

He said “the global target for the elimination of the disease is 2030, while the state is targeting the elimination of the disease by 2025.”

Kakale said the anti-malaria items which included three million insecticide treated nets, insecticides and sprayers, among others, were purchased by the state government in collaboration with the Federal Government and development partners such as USAID, Presidential Malaria Initiative and the Federal Ministry of Health.

The commissioner said out of the N3billion, the state government contributed about N 300million, while others contributed N 2.7 billion.

He explained that the first of the three components of the fight against malaria in the state was the purchase of seasonal chemotherapy drugs, for the free treatment of patients.

Kakale said the second component involves the residual fumigation and purchase of sprayers, insecticides and larviciding etc while the third component includes ensuring that people sleep under long lasting, insecticide treated nets, as well as rapid testing.

The cost also entailed the training of health personnel, operational costs and other assorted logistics, he added.

Health / Why You Need Zinc, And How To Get It by johneewalker: Last week on Tue at 05:16pm
Zinc is a mineral your cells need to fight off bacteria and viruses and make the genetic material, called DNA, that tells your body how to work the way it should. It helps you heal wounds, aids your senses of smell and taste, and is important for infants and children as they grow.

An adult man needs 11 milligrams a day, and an adult woman, 8 mg. If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, you’ll need more-around 12 mg. Children need 2 to 11 mg depending on their age and gender. Talk to your paediatrician about how much is right for your child.

You might be getting enough but some things can make it hard for your body to use it, including surgery on your stomach or intestines, alcohol abuse, and digestive diseases. People who don’t eat meat or animal products can have a harder time getting enough zinc from food.

When zinc isn’t enough, it can make children grow more slowly and delay puberty in teens. Adults who are low on zinc can have hair loss, diarrhoea, sores on their eyes and skin, and loss of appetite. It also can affect a man’s sexual desire. Talk to your doctor before taking a supplement, though. These issues can be caused by something other than a lack of zinc.

Zinc helps your skin protect you from heat and cold, bacteria, and viruses. Your doctor might prescribe a zinc supplement or ointment to treat certain skin problems, like acne.

Nothing beats oysters for zinc. A serving of 85g has 74mg. That’s five times more than you need per day.

Red, fatty meat is linked to health problems but can deliver zinc. Just keep your portions small and eat plenty of green vegetables on the side. An 85g serving has about 7mg of zinc.

Dark meat chicken has 2.4mg zinc per 85g serving, compared with less than 1 milligram in a skinless chicken breast. Try some pan-roasted chicken thighs with sautéed kale for a healthy, tasty meal.

How about a zinc-rich snack? Cashews have 1.6mg zinc per 28g serving. Keep them at your desk for a healthy treat instead of candy or chips. Just watch your portions. While they’re healthy, cashews are also full of calories and fat.

Some people take more zinc as a supplement by itself or as part of a multivitamin. This can be helpful if you don’t get enough in your diet or you have certain medical conditions, but it’s not always safe. Check with your doctor first.

Too much zinc can cause diarrhoea, stomach cramps, headache, and nausea. And if you take too much for too long, you may have lower levels of copper (another essential nutrient), a weaker immune system, and less high-density cholesterol. You shouldn’t get more than 40 milligrams a day unless your doctor has told you otherwise. Talk to your paediatrician before giving a zinc supplement to your child.

Politics / Dhq To Investigate Calabar Navy, Police Clash by johneewalker: Last week on Tue at 05:14pm

Politics / Reps Summon Mtn, Glo, Others Over Job Losses by johneewalker: Last week on Tue at 09:24am

A House of Representatives panel has summoned the chief executive officers of MTN, Glo, Airtel, Etisalat and Intel to appear before it tomorrow over the massive job losses in the telecoms sector.

The committee on telecommunications, chaired by Saheed Fijabi (APC, Oyo), said the five service providers have questions to answer regarding their recent actions of sacking many Nigerians without justifiable cause.

The five companies would also respond to queries on their failure to remit to government coffers, actual taxes as a result of their activities in Nigeria.

Fijabi said their invitation followed the inability of the CEOs to appear before the committee.

He told Daily Trust in Abuja yesterday that the committee would not accept representatives of the CEOs; as such persons cannot provide satisfactory explanations.

Car Talk / Frsc To Carry Out Psychiatric Tests On ‘people Who Use Phones While Driving by johneewalker: Last week on Tue at 08:48am
As from July 1, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) will start conducting psychiatric tests for traffic law offenders in the country.

Boboye Oyeyemi, the corps marshal, made this known on Monday at the opening of a five-day training programme for FRSC officials on traffic safety for non-motorised transportation in Abuja.

Oyeyemi said the FRSC was empowered by its enabling Act to carry out the proposed psychiatric examination.

A statement was released to this effect by Bisi Kazeem, the FRSC corps public education officer.

“We are worried about the continuous use of phone while driving, traffic light violations, route violations and dangerous driving,” the statement quoted Oyeyemi as saying.

“We have invited the commanding officers for a strategic session on Friday. We will give them full directives to resume the referral of all these classes of offenders to various government hospitals for check of their mental state.

“I think it is an act of irresponsibility for somebody to be driving and be using phone or for a traffic light to stop you and you are jumping the line.

“It means something is wrong with your mental faculty. So, there is a need to examine this, to really check whether you are fit to drive, whether you have the mental capability to drive or not.

“The offender will bear the cost. When they confirm that he is fit, then he will go for retraining programme and pay the fine.”

“Fine is not the issue; the issue is we need a positive attitudinal change by Nigerians. We cannot continue to be having fatal crashes due to traffic light violations, people jumping the traffic lights, I think it is crass irresponsibility.”

Politics / Efcc: Why We Raided Head Office Of The Sun by johneewalker: Last week on Tue at 08:35am
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has broken it silence on the raid of the head office of The SUN newspaper in Lagos.

On Monday morning, well-armed operatives of the agency invaded premises of the newspaper and disrupted its operation for about an hour.

The SUN had alleged witch hunt, accusing Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the commission, of masterminding the invasion over a story written about his wife.

But in its statement, the agency said the raid was part of routine efforts to ascertain the state of the assets of the publishing company which is subject of subsisting interim forfeiture order.

The anti-graft agency said in the course of its prosecution of Orji Uzor Kalu, former governor of Abia state and owner of the company, it had obtained an asset forfeiture order which has since been appealed by the organisation.

“Operatives of the EFCC in the early hours of June 12, 2017, visited the head office of the Sun Newspaper in Lagos. The visit which lasted for less an hour was part of routine efforts to ascertain the state of the assets of the publishing company which is subject of subsisting interim forfeiture order,” the statement by EFCC read.

“Prior to the visit, the commission had written to the management of the company to account for its management of the assets for the period of the subsisting court order.

“The commission still awaits the response of The SUN and will not be distracted by any attempt to whip up sentiments by alluding to an appeal which has been pending for ten years. The commission’s action is without prejudice to any appeal and only meant to verify the integrity of the assets.”

The EFCC also denied some allegations contained in the statement which the management of the company released after the raid.

“Contrary to claims in a statement released to the media by the management of The SUN, no employee of the media outfit was molested or intimidated for the few minutes that operatives of the commission spent in the premises of the company,” the statement read.

“The claim that ‘EFCC operatives subjected our staff to crude intimidation, psychological and emotional trauma, even as some of the men accused our organisation of publishing pro-Biafra, Boko Haram, and Niger Delta Militant stories,’ is strange and clearly the figment of the imagination of the Sun.

Crime / Why I Collect Ransom In Dollars – Evans by johneewalker: Last week on Mon at 11:42am

A suspected kidnap kingpin popularly known as Evans, who was arrested by police in Lagos yesterday, said that he chose to collect ransom in dollars to be different from other kidnappers.

The suspect, whose real name is Chukwudi Dumeme Onuamadike, was paraded at the State’s Police Command in Ikeja yesterday along with other suspected gang members - Nwosu Chikodi Chukwuma aka Sudo (42), Suoyo Paul aka Nwana (42), Felix Chinemerem (36), Ikenna Emeka (28), Uchechukwu Amadi and Ogechi Amadi.

Evans told newsmen that he started the business of kidnapping in 2015, after he left his spare parts business.

He said that he lost N20 million to customs officers, which made him to leave his trade.

The suspect was arrested in his mansion in Magodo area of the state on Saturday.

Evans, who wasn’t sure of how many people he had kidnapped, said the highest he had collected as ransom was one million dollars.

“I can’t figure out how much I have collected so far or how many people I have kidnapped, but I have kidnapped up to 10 since 2015. I choose to collect ransom in dollars to be different, and the maximum I have collected as ransom so far is 1 million dollars.

“I work in two groups, a team moves with me to kidnap victims while we hand over to the other team that takes the victim to the hide out. Kinsley introduced me to kidnapping, but I usually get my ammunition from one Chinedu and Ehis whom I met at Ago-Iwoye. I also do drug business that enabled me to buy my property,” the suspect said.

The Force PPRO, Jimoh Moshood, said that the suspect had collected billions of naira from his victims and had property in and outside the country.

He said that Evans was declared wanted in 2013, following a kidnap attempt that was foiled by the police.

“He is said to have masterminded several kidnap cases in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun and South-South states,” the police said.

Arms and ammunitions recovered from the suspects include: Five (5) AK 47 rifles; one (1) AK-49 rifle; two (2) double barrel long; two ‘2’ English pistols; fifty-nine (59) AK-47 magazine with ammunition; one thousand two hundred and seventy TWO (1,272) live ammunition OF AK-47 (9mm); FIVE (5) different plate numbers and other weapons.

Politics / Kaduna Sacks 4,776 Traditional Rulers by johneewalker: Last week on Mon at 11:08am

The Kaduna State Government has finally implemented the recommendations of the committee it set up to review the number of district and village heads in the state.

With the implementation, 4,766 district and village heads will be dropped as the state government said it would now recognize only the 77 districts and 1,429 villages that existed prior to 2001.

The number of districts increased to 390 with the 313 created while village units increased to 5,882.

The state Commissioner for Local Governments, Alhaji Jafaru Sani, who disclosed this at a press conference, said the restructuring was to reduce the burden that a bloated payroll imposed on local government councils.

The government said it had consulted the state Council of Chiefs which had endorsed the restructuring of districts.

The commissioner said the creation of more districts from 2001 increased the number of district heads along with increased personnel in the district offices which added more than 2,700 employees to the payroll of the local government councils.

The commissioner said the restructuring however would not affect the 32 emirs and chiefs in the state.

“It is the duty of the state government to pay the salaries and allowances of all the 32 chiefs. And the state government shall continue to be responsible for all our graded chiefs,” he said, adding that while the state government had been discharging its obligations to the 32 chiefs, the local government councils were not able to do the same for their district heads.

Before 2001, Kaduna State had only 77 districts and 1,429 village units. The six oldest first class emirates and chiefdoms had 37 districts, which ballooned to 152 districts after 2001.

He said government had not seen any objective criteria or a strategic consideration that concluded that the proliferation of districts was either sustainable or crucial to delivering public goods or promoting harmony at the grassroots.

Politics / Osinbajo To Sign Budget Tomorrow by johneewalker: Last week on Mon at 11:05am
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo will tomorrow sign the 2017 budget into law barring last minute change of decision, Daily Trust has learnt.

A source familiar with the matter told our reporter that the budget signing was initially slated for today, but postponed to tomorrow due to undisclosed engagement by the acting president.

The budget, it was further gathered, would be signed at an event to be attended by all relevant stakeholders, including the leaders of the National Assembly and chairmen of committees such as appropriation, finance, legislative budget and research, among others.

The event, Daily Trust learnt, would take place at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja by 3.pm.

“All grey areas have been sorted and the budget is ready for signing into law any time soon,” Timothy Golu, a member of the House of Representatives, who chairs committee on legislative budget and research told Daily Trust last night.

The National Assembly had on May 9 passed the budget estimates submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari last December.

The approved budget was transmitted to the Presidency on May 19. Since then, the Executive has been examining the documents.

Speaker Yakubu Dogara had on Friday said the budget would be signed into law early this week.

“On issue of budget, we kept our promise to Nigerians at the beginning of the legislative session to ensure transparent deliberation and passage of the 2017 Appropriations Bill, which will be signed into law early next week,” Dogara said.

The federal legislature jerked up the 2017 budget by N143 billion, from the N7.298 trillion proposed by President Muhammadu Buhari to N7.441trillion.

The sum of N2.174 trillion was for contribution to the Development Fund for capital expenditure; N434.412bn for Statutory Transfers; N1.841 trillion for debt service; N177.460bn for Sinking Fund for maturing bonds, while the sum of N2.990 trillion is for recurrent (non-debt) expenditure.

Similarly, the sum of N20bn was added to the budget by the lawmakers for the second runway at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.

Usman stated that the nine minors rescued were undergoing training at the terrorists’ training camp in the village.

He added that “the minors have been evacuated and are being given preliminary humanitarian assistance in preparation to handing them over to Kala Balge Internally Displaced Persons Camp Management Committee.”

The army spokesman stated that the troops also recovered many weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, one double barrel gun, one primed heavy Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and one motorcycle.

He noted that the successful operation followed credible information that some terrorists had converged on Jarawa village.

Computers / It’s Time To Move To Windows 10 by johneewalker: Last week on Mon at 10:56am

By some accounts, Windows 10, launched 29 July 2015, still has a modest user base relative to the potential capacity. As you can guess, Microsoft has done everything imaginable to get you to switch to Windows 10, say from Windows 7; but apparently this has not worked, based on the number of Windows users that still work from Windows 7. Now, however, Microsoft is saying that the Windows 7 operating system (OS) is outdated, and that, even with patches, it’s not secure enough. That is, you ought to switch to Windows 10.

Of course, Windows 7, the practical predecessor to Windows 10, was launched in 2009, offering much-needed break from the nightmare of Vista. Windows 7 is cleaner than Vista and runs better on the then popular low-power netbooks. In a sense, Windows 7 is reminiscent of the situation with Windows XP, whose support could only end in 2014, almost 13 years after it was launched; because users refused to upgrade to Windows 8, the intended replacement for XP. Windows XP required several support extensions to ensure Microsoft wasn’t leaving too many users behind. Customers didn’t just want to leave XP. As of now, only businesses that have purchased the expensive Customer Support contract for XP from Microsoft still receive support for the OS.

What is the current situation with Windows 7? Well, Windows 7 has Extended Support guaranteed through January 13, 2020 for everyone, after which no more public patches would be developed. However, according to Microsoft, the public patches might not be sufficient to keep Windows 7 safe from hackers.

The assessment of Microsoft is that Windows 7 does not meet the requirements of modern technology or the security requirements of IT departments; with a security model that is deemed to be too dated to handle today’s threats. Waiting for the 2020 official end of support for Windows 7 to move to Windows 10 might result in added costs to you from malware management.

According to Microsoft, Windows 10 is the most secure OS it has ever released, with security features that include biometric login support, application sandboxing, and advanced threat protection via Windows Defender. These features make Windows 10 capable of handling some threats it hasn’t even been specifically patched for yet. To avoid having Windows 7 become XP v2.0 - if this is not already too late - you can imagine Microsoft will be hitting you hard with the narrative that Windows 7 isn’t good anymore.

Cortana, Windows personal digital assistant, is more intelligent in Windows 10. For example, you can launch applications with your voice. Windows Hello greets you by your name and has the capability for barometric authentication, so you can log into your PC without a password. Microsoft Edge, Microsoft’s new browser that replaces Internet Explorer, has been built from the ground up in Windows 10. One interesting feature of Edge is the ability to annotate web pages directly. Thus, you can draw and type notes on web pages, as well as clip sections that interest you into OneNote. Edge is easier to use and has been developed to better support mobile devices, when compared with earlier versions of Windows. It also supports the new Internet standard HTML 5 (Hyper Text Markup Language 5).

Should you heed Microsoft’s suggestion that you move to Windows 10? I would say absolutely, and the sooner the better. Thus, you shouldn’t wait till the 2020 deadline. Oftentimes, disasters don’t warn you before they arrive. So, as they say, Better Safe than Sorry.

Should you update from a previous Windows OS, or get a new machine with Windows 10 preloaded in it? I’ll advise that you get a new desktop or laptop rather than updating in an old computer. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, your device has seen a few years if it not using Windows 10. Second, somehow things always seem to go wrong with major updates. Full backward compatibility, even though promised, is always an issue. There are other issues: inadequate memory to install Windows 10 on your old computer, freeze-ups, incompatible hardware components in your machine, and scores of other error messages during installation that tell you the updating process isn’t working. So, just get a new PC!

Sports / Nadal Defeats Wawrinka In Straight Sets To Win Tenth French Open Title by johneewalker: This month on Sun 11 at 08:28pm
Even Stan Wawrinka had to smile before Sunday’s French Open final when the stadium announcer listed year-by-year each of the nine previous titles Rafael Nadal had won at Roland Garros.

Another one can now be added to the list — and it is one for the ages — after the Spaniard crushed Wawrinka 6-2 6-3 6-1 to become the first man to win the same grand slam on 10 occasions.

The Decima.

Indeed it is a feat that may never be duplicated.
Only twelve months ago a tearful Nadal bailed from his favorite tournament in Paris in the first week with a wrist injury, another in a seemingly endless list of ailments to derail the 31-year-old.

Be it his knees, wrist or appendicitis, Nadal has always managed to recover and rediscover some of his finest tennis.
Agonizingly close to winning a 15th major at the Australian Open in January — he lost to great rival and Wawrinka’s fellow Swiss Roger Federer after holding a break lead in the fifth set — there was simply no denying Nadal at Roland Garros as he ended a three-year drought at majors.

Nadal moved into sole possession of second place in men’s majors, pulling away from American Pete Sampras and once again getting to within three of Federer.
And for the third time — after 2008 and 2010 — he won the French Open title without conceding a set. He averaged less than two hours on court.

He is not dubbed the ‘King of Clay’ for no reason.
Gustavo Kuerten, the much loved Brazilian who was feted along with other tennis Hall of Famers prior to the finale, insisted last week Nadal could win several more French Opens. If he does so next year, his 11 titles would match what Margaret Court accomplished at the Australian Open in the 1960s and 70s. She is the lone other tennis player to reach double digits at majors.
Certainly Nadal’s form suggests he has plenty of good tennis left in him. He’ll want those injuries to stay away.
But if he does continue to pile up victories at Roland Garros, it will be without his influential coach, his Uncle Toni. He is expected to stop traveling with his nephew next year, with former grand slam winner Carlos Moya — currently Nadal’s co-coach — taking on more of the load.

All those years ago, it was Toni’s decision to turn Nadal from a right-hander — his dominant hand outside of tennis — to a lefty.
There is no greater challenge in tennis than trying to defeat Nadal in a best-of-five set match on clay, so Wawrinka will probably look back on his fortnight with fondness once the immediate disappointment fades.

He lost his first grand slam final in four attempts, having opened his account by topping Nadal at the 2014 Australian Open.
Known for being one of the fittest players around, perhaps his 4 1/2 hour win over world No. 1 Andy Murray in Friday’s semifinals wasn’t — physically — the best preparation.
In the first set however, the Swiss controlled most of the rallies as Nadal opted to sit back and not force matters.
Nadal saved the first break point in the third game with a good save, then Wawrinka immediately saved four. But Nadal pulled away to win four straight games from 2-2.

It was a steamy day in Paris — temperatures hovered around 30 degrees Celsius — a boost to Nadal’s heavily spun forehand.
He clearly stepped up his game in the second game of the second, adopting a more aggressive stance on the baseline and dictating proceedings. After one rally in which he bullied his foe all over the court, Wawrinka placed a the ball in his mouth in frustration.

Nadal’s blazing forehand down the line drew prolonged gasps from the crowd at 4-1. He was now in full flow.
Wawrinka knew he had to break Nadal to stay in the second set to have any — small — chance of triumphing: Nadal was 11-1 in grand slam finals when taking the opener.
But it didn’t materialize and Wawrinka flung his racket to the court in disgust when he missed a forehand passing shot with Nadal stranded.

Nadal never relented in this first men’s final featuring two thirty-somethings at Roland Garros since 1969.
Wawrinka — with a seemingly smile of resignation on his face — implored the crowd to get behind him when he delicately sent a chipped backhand past Nadal in the fifth game of the third. He was broken a few seconds later to trail 4-1. Two games later the match was over — the Spaniard collapsing onto the clay in joy.
Nadal has broken his fair share of opponents on the clay, that’s for sure.

Politics / June 12: Lagos Declares Tomorrow Public Holiday by johneewalker: This month on Sun 11 at 08:06pm
The Lagos State government has declared tomorrow public holiday, to mark the 24 years of the annulment of the historic June 12, 1993 Presidential Election.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tunji Bello on behalf of the State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, the government said the holiday was in honour of the ideals which June 12, 1993 Presidential election represents.
The governor said the state remains committed to the ideals of the annulled presidential election, adjudged, the freest and fairest in the country.

He said 24 years after, the ideals of June 12 commemoration were worth celebrating, describing the day as one of the most defining moments of the country’s political history which has positively shaped its democratic rule.
The governor said the time had come for Nigerians to go beyond the commemoration and entrench a viable democracy as a way to immortalise the late presumed winner of June 12, 1993 Presidential election, Chief M.K.O Abiola through the practice of true federalism and conduct of credible and fair elections.
His words: “June 12, 1993 is a day we must not forget in the annals of our democratic history. Our present democratic experience may still be far from the ideal but we must all make concerted efforts to entrench fiscal federalism which is the only way to achieve true nationhood.”

According to Ambode, part of the enduring lessons of the June 12 election was that it imbued the patriotic and nationalistic zeal in all Nigerians to speak with one voice to make a political choice devoid of ethnic, racial or social sentiments.
“On June 12, 1993, majority of Nigerians across all divides demonstrated through the ballot box that irrespective of class or ethnic sympathies, the Nigerian people are united and would always join hands to promote our unifying values,” he said.
“Alhough the peoples’ hope was dashed with the annulment of the elections by the military junta, the lessons of the elections cannot be wished away despite subterranean efforts by many to do, describing June 12 as the real Democracy Day in Nigeria.
“We owe it a duty to genuinely immortalize the fallen heroes of the June 12 struggle nationally and deepen our democratic values to ensure that never again will such anti-people action be allowed to take place”.

He also assured that his administration remains committed to the ideals of June 12 by carrying out people-oriented programmes across the State and making life more comfortable for the people.
Meanwhile, the State Government, through the office of Civic Engagement, has perfected arrangement for the annual public symposium which will hold today at the De Roof, LTV 8 in Ikeja, to celebrate June 12.

Health / Eight Healthy Reasons To Eat Kiwi Fruit by johneewalker: This month on Sun 11 at 08:00pm
Kiwi fruit is a bright-green coloured exotic fruit named after the New Zealand Kiwi bird — an unusual flightless bird — because both are small, brown and furry.
Kiwi is packed with a lot of essential nutrients that are just healthy for the body.

Below are nine health benefits of kiwi fruit.
Aids digestion

Raw kiwi contains actinidain, a protein-dissolving enzyme that can help digest a meal much like the papain in papaya or bromelain in pineapple.

This is the reason why it is commonly used as a meat tenderiser. Moreover, it helps in the digestion of proteins in the body and is also known to help patients suffering from irritable bowel syndrome.

‘Prevents’ DNA damage
A study by Collins, Horska and Hotten showed that the unique combination of antioxidants in kiwi helps protect the cell DNA from oxidative damage. Some experts suggest this can help prevent cancer.

Boosts immunity
Kiwi’s high vitamin C content along with other antioxidant compounds has been proven to boost the immune system.

Detoxifies the body
The fuzzy fiber of kiwi helps bind and move toxins from your intestinal tract.

Good heart health
The fiber and potassium in kiwis support heart health. An increase in potassium intake along with a decrease in sodium intake is the most important dietary change that a person can make to reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease, according to Mark Houston, MD, MS, an associate clinical professor of medicine at Vanderbilt Medical School.

High potassium intakes are also associated with a reduced risk of stroke, protection against loss of muscle mass, preservation of bone mineral density and reduction in the formation of kidney stones.

Suitable for diabetics
Kiwi is in the ‘low’ category for glycemic index, meaning it does not raise your blood sugar quickly. It has a glycemic load of 4 which means it is safe for diabetics.

Creates alkaline balance
Kiwi has a rich supply of minerals to replace the excess of acidic foods most individuals consume. Some of the benefits of a properly acid/alkaline balanced body are; youthful skin, deeper sleep, abundant physical energy, fewer colds, less arthritis and reduced osteoporosis.

Protects skin from degeneration
Kiwis are a good source of vitamin E, an antioxidant known to protect skin from degeneration.
