Sports / Five ‘nigerians’ Help England Win U20 World Cup by johneewalker: This month on Sun 11 at 07:50pm
Five players of Nigerian origin were on the pitch as the Young Lions of England defeated Venezuela 1-0 to win the U20 World Cup in Korea.

It was England’s first major international football silverware since the 1966 World Cup and Nigeria played a part.

Sheyi Ojo, Fikayo Tomori, Dominic Solanke, Ademola Lookman, Joshua Onomah all featured in the final.

Ovie Ejaria, the sixth player of Nigerian origin in the squad, did not play a part in the game.

Playing against the favourites, Paul Simpson’s talented side did well to keep attacking at every chance they got until a goal materialised.

After Wuilker Frainez saved his initial shot, Dominic Calvert-Lewin smashed the rebound into the bottom corner to hand England the crucial breakthrough in the 34th minute.

In the 73rd minute, the referee pointed to the spot after Aldarberto Penaranda was brought down inside the 18-yard box by Jake Clarke-Salter – but Freddie Woodman saved the kick to keep England in the driving seat.

The Young Lions successfully fought off the Venezelueans to hold on to the lead until the final whistle.

Phones / Important Tips For Buying A New Smartphone by bison: This month on Sat 10 at 01:45pm
The smartphone market is so huge now that it has made getting a new smartphone a tricky task. Nobody enjoys ending up with a bad choice and unfortunately, there are too many bad choices in the smartphone market today. Keeping the tips I will be sharing with you in mind can help you make a better choice. Let’s see: TIP 1: Wait for Reviews This tip is for those who
only buy flagship devices
or latest releases. So you
feel the need to be
among the first to own
the latest smartphone. Maybe your idea of the
best has just hit the
market and you want to
rush to buy it. Well, wait
a moment! The rush
doesn’t always pay off as new phones are often
plagued with bugs and
sometimes factory
defects. Just give it a
few weeks to see
reviews and what other people think before
making a purchase. Yes,
I know reviews don’t
always reflect real life
usage but the general
opinion of a device sure will reflect what it truly
is. One more thing; you
may also likely get that
same phone at a better
price after some weeks
from launch. And if your desired phone has been
available for quite
sometime, you may have
to read up a few non-
paid reviews and user
opinion. Watch videos reviews on YouTube to
get better look of it. TIP 2: Lookout For the Important stuff Smartphone
manufacturers often just
add a few gimmicks to
their latest releases, put
a huge price tag and tell
you it’s the next best thing out there. If you
don’t already know what
you need in a
smartphone, you will fall
for this old trick. There’s
really no best smartphone anywhere,
ever. So only pay
attention to the
important features that
you actually have need
for. Not paying attention to what counts will get
you constantly getting a
new phone with some
gimmicky features you
may never even use. TIP 3: Service Centers, Warranty and updates matter It’s important to
consider the availability
of service centers,
warranty and over the
air updates. I have seen
completely irresistible smartphones (in terms
of actual design at
unbelievable price) from
Asian manufacturers.
The turn off for me was
always that most of those phones are from
manufacturers that do
not have service centres
outside of their
countries. Most annoying
is that many of them do not offer over the air
updates and fixes. The
implication is that if
your phone gets
defective you may never
be able to have it fixed. TIP 4: Mind the Network and Connectivity options Most smartphones now
come equipped with the
basic connectivity
options like Bluetooth,
Wi-Fi, NFC, and even 4G/
LTE. Just ensure the smartphone you are
gunning for is not left
out on any of these.
Anyways, the tip here is
that bear in mind that
not all phones can run on every network. This is
even more important if
you are looking at
getting a phone that
supports 4G networks.
Ensure to compare the frequency band of the
phone with your local
network carrier/
provider. If you travel a
lot, ensure your
smartphone has network bands that are
available
internationally. TIP 5: Accessories and spare parts are important Have you owned a
smartphone with a
minor fault that couldn’t
be fixed? I had not just
one but two phones that
I had to reluctantly dispose of. One had a
dead battery that I could
not find a replacement
for. The other had a
broken screen and the
replacement was nowhere to be found
unless of course in
China. If you are buying
online from China then
check to be sure the
accessories and parts are available at your
local stores. LASTLY: It’s true you get
what you pay for, but
this is not also so with
smartphones. It’s
costlier doesn’t always
mean it’s better. You can get a mid range
smartphone that does
almost every thing that a
high end do. If you are looking at getting smartphone you can resell later, you might consider getting a phone with good re- sale value. Remember also to get protective accessories for the phone to keep it in good shape till you are ready put it out for sale. That’s it.

Jokes Etc / India Newspaper Offers 'tips' For Conceiving A Baby Boy by bison: This month on Sat 10 at 01:28pm
A newspaper in India has
offered its readers
scientifically unfounded tips
for ensuring they conceive
boys instead of girls, telling
would-be mothers to eat lots and face west while sleeping. The sex of a child is
determined by the
chromosomes in the father's
sperm. But the daily newspaper
Mangalam, in Kerala state in
southern India, printed six
suggestions for those who
want to have baby boys. There is a cultural preference
for male children in India. "The chance of a girl or a boy
at conception is totally
random," said Dr Shazia Malik,
a consultant obstetrician and
gynaecologist at The Portland
Hospital in London, debunking the article. "There is no scientific evidence
on any method that will
change this statistical chance
when a baby is conceived
naturally." Mangalam, which filed the
story in the health news
section of its site, also advises potential mothers-to-be not to
skip breakfast and to have sex
only on certain days of the
week, when the male sperm is
"stronger". It said men can
play a role and help strengthen their sperm by avoiding acidic
foods. But the strength of a sperm
does not affect the baby's sex.
The only way a baby can be
male is if the fertilising sperm
carries a Y chromosome. Feminist Indian website The Ladies Finger translated the article from the original Malayalam language, which is
spoken in Kerala. "With all these inconvenient
laws regarding sex
determination, it is a relief
that there is finally a fool-
proof checklist to follow for
boy-bearing," The Ladies Finger site wrote, sarcastically. Tests to determine a foetus'
sex are illegal in India, but
that does not stop them taking
place and leading to sex-
selective abortions. In 1961, there were 976 girls
for every 1,000 boys under the
age of seven. According to the
latest census figures, released
in 2011, that figure had
dropped to 914. Gita Aravamudan, Indian
author of Disappearing
Daughters: The Tragedy of
Female Foeticide, said
Mangalam's article is not likely
to have a major impact, especially as it is written in a
minority language, but it is
one of many articles,
"remedies" and old wives'
tales that offer ways to avoid
having a female baby. "This article is even more
ridiculous than usual, but such
ideas are common," she told
the BBC. "It shows that attitudes like
this still flourish despite
initiatives taken by the Indian
government, NGOs and health
workers. The message isn't
going through: people still value boys more than girls." The preference for boys is
longstanding in some cultures,
and often comes from men
being seen as the stronger sex
and financial providers for
families, especially during parents' old age. In India, dowries, paid when
girls eventually marry, are also
seen as a high cost that could
be avoided.

Sexuality / Rules Are Meant To Be Broken by knowledge: This month on Sat 10 at 08:35am
NO RULE
Some rules are meant to broken… if not bent a bit.

As part of my job I have the pleasure of taking the clients of our car repair shop out on our Christmas harbor cruise. The night is always full of fun laughter and alcohol.

Stacey was a 22-year-old compliance manager for a large supermarket chain. They had added motor vehicles to her roll as well. From the first meeting we had she advised me that she didn’t have a clue about cars and if I could fix any problems that came up she would be eternally grateful.

This suited me fine.

Seeing her twice a week allowed us to strike up a good relationship with amazing conversation that flowed freely. Stacey wasn’t what I call beautiful. Her body was sporty and a little gangly… but she had something. Something you can’t buy or even try to create.

She had massive sex appeal.

Each time I left her office I spent the drive back thinking how great it would be to suck her perfectly shaped breasts and tease the nipples that look at you through her clothes and just ask you to touch them.

Becoming single had opened up lots of opportunities for me sexually and she was someone that I could have got lost with many times.

But as I said I have rules.

You don’t sleep with work colleagues or clients. It always, without exception, ends up complicated or bad.

So back to the party night.

The group was milling in the bar of the Four Seasons hotel when Stacey and her boyfriend Troy turned up to check in. Troy was hot with an awesome body to match. Stacey looked a bit disheveled, since she had come straight from her ladies soccer match, but I couldn’t help thinking how good she would taste right now.

I gave them their key and they went and checked into their room as another round of drinks arrived.

A few rounds later Stacey and Troy arrived at the bar. Stacey’s looked stunning in a short black body-hugging dress and a pair of Jimmy Choos. He hair was up and her neck looked oh so kissable! A teardrop crystal necklace nestled in her cleavage bringing attention to her amazing breasts.

It wasn’t just me that noticed – it seemed like every guy in the whole bar stopped, looked, closed their eyes and dreamed for a moment.

Shortly afterwards we boarded our boat.

The harbor cruise was amazing. The champagne flowed and the dance floor was open. Grabbing one client at a time, I danced the night away. Stacey was sitting waiting for Troy to dance with her. He didn’t get the hint and just kept tossing the drinks back.

I walked up to them and asked them both if it would be fine to dance with her.

Troy’s response was

“Why not? I’m not going to.”

The disappointment that showed on her face from Troy’s remark soon disappeared as we got to the dance floor. Stacey smelled amazing and her eyes drew me inside her. The music slowed and we moved in closer. She told me that she loved sharing our time together and thanked me for a great evening. Then she dropped a bombshell,

“I’m leaving the company next Friday and heading back home to work with in family business. You’re the only one who knows, don’t say anything. I haven’t even told Troy yet.”

She put her head on my shoulder. I felt a light kiss on my neck, and heard her whisper.

“Some rules are meant to be broken.”

The song ended and I didn’t want to let her go. A faster song came on and we left the dance floor. Doug my boss had arranged another round for shots and asked me to make a toast. I raised my glass and said

“To breaking rules, if not bending them a bit.” Stacey smiled

The cruise boat pulled into the wharf. Half the group decided to head home and some back to the hotel. Others wanted to continue the party.

I watched as Stacey walked ahead of me - loving the way her ass wiggled as she walked - lost in thoughts about what she had on under that dress.

The group stopped at the entrance to the Cave nightclub they all looked at me still exploring Stacey’s body in my mind.

Stacey grabbed my hand and said

“Let’s go, I want to dance.”

I came back to the present

“What were you thinking?’ she asked.

“I was wondering what you were wearing under that dress.” The words were out before I could take them back. Stacey smiled and whispered in my ear

“I’m sure you would be impressed.”

We went in and enjoyed a lot more dancing and a few more drinks. It was 2am and I decided it was time to head back to the hotel. Some of the group came with me. Stacey wanted to leave but Troy wanted to stay and drink. He couldn’t even stand straight but they stayed and with the others continued on the night.

Fresh and clean out of my shower I jumped into bed, thinking how nice it would be to be deep inside Stacey right now and started to play with my hardening cock.

The more I thought the harder I pulled losing myself in the pleasure for a while. I heard a knock at the door.

“Who is it?” I called out.

There was no reply, just another knock a few seconds later. I jumped out of bed and put my head round the door. Stacey was standing there in a hotel gown. She asked

“So do you want to really see what I was wearing under my dress?”

“Hell yes!” was all I could reply. She walked past me brushing past my body. I was naked. And hard.

She took two steps into my room, turned and dropped the robe. My cock pulsed at the sight of her three quarter stockings, lacy bra and high heels. Her pussy was bald and calling me.

Rules? It was time to break some.

I kissed her in a way I have wanted to for months. The passion was amazing. Her hands wandered over my body pulling me closer to her as she wrapped a leg around me making us fall to the floor.

“Troy, what about Troy?” I spurted out.

“That pig is drunk and asleep. I am so fucking horny. I sucked his cock for ages until I heard him start to snore then like so many times before I thought of you. I’m here, the rest doesn’t matter.”

That was all I needed to hear. I lifted her to the bed and laid her down on her belly. I undid her bra off and started kissing her from her feet up spending time on all of her until my body ran up her back to where her head was on the side.

I bit her neck and she squirmed. My hard cock was sitting her butt cheeks and she reverse bucked my cock rubbing it all over her ass. I rolled her over and for the first time I saw her awesome breasts. Her nipples were cherry red and hard ready to suck. I climbed on top of her and as she opened her legs I smelled her woman scent. It was intoxicating.

I stopped and sucked her pussy. I licked each and every part. Fuck she tasted great! I was lost, drunk on her taste. My fingers entered her pussy as I licked her pleasure bud. I felt her grab my head as she started to cum. Her nails dug lightly into my skull, her breath quickened and her hips bucked into my face harder and faster. Then she came, releasing screams of pleasure.

As the waves subsided she said

“I want to suck you now.” I laid on my back and she climbed on top sitting her beautiful pussy right in front of my mouth and started sucking my cock.

“Oh fuck that’s good, yeah suck it, oh fuck yeah that is so fucking good” I said.

Then I let out my mouth find per pussy as my fingers pull her apart. My tongue traveled deep inside her and I tongue fucked her, then licked her clit then tongue fucked her some more.

“Fuck you have a great cock, its so beautiful” she said as she turned around my body and lined her cunt up with my cock.

She lowered herself down so the head of my cock entered into her pussy. It felt like silk.

“Oh” she cried as my head split her pussy wide.

“I have so wanted you inside me for so long. I have dreamed of you fucking me, even thought about you fucking me as the ape was having his way with me.”

Health / Eating Mangoes And 6 Other Ways To Keep Your Vagina Healthy by johneewalker: This month on Fri 09 at 09:20am
Like every other sex-related topic, the average African is hesitant when it comes to discussing the importance of maintaining a healthy vagina.

The vagina is usually thought to be dirty and smelly but the good news is; like every other body part, the vagina can be kept healthy and smelling of rose petals.

A huge percentage of Nigerian women do not visit the gynecologist for checkup because they are not comfortable discussing their lady parts while some view it as a waste of time and money.

Here are some ways to maintain a healthy vagina.

Water is your best friend
Water should be called a woman’s best friend. It helps the skin look bright and acne will be a distant memory. In the case of your lady parts, washing with water is your safest bet.

Cleaning with soaps and feminine wash may distort the microbial balance and this could lead to infections.

Also, drinking enough water will get rid of that uncomfortable smell. Like the mouth, the vagina is a mucus surface so it needs to be hydrated to stay fresh and look healthy.

So instead of spending money on feminine wash, be economical and safe at the same time, use water.

If you insist on feminine wash…
If you feel uncomfortable washing with just water, use feminine wash occasionally.

Gynecologists have proven over time that the vagina is self-cleansing and does not necessarily need extra help.

Sisters, the extra scrubbing is not needed. Handle with care.

You are what you eat
You might not believe it but what you eat affects how you smell down there. Eating red meat, garlic could cause an awful smell down there.

The logic is the same as that of the armpit or mouth; eating a meal heavy with garlic would give a bad breath.

Bitter coffee, cigarettes are other things that could give a bad smell.

After water comes yoghurt.

Lactobacillus is part of the good bacteria that keeps the vagina healthy. Another rich source of this bacteria is yoghurt and cheese. So if you want to keep it healthy, drink some yoghurt.

Fruits and vegetables
This may sound cliché but the benefits of fruits and vegetables cannot be over emphasised. Fruits like pineapples and watermelon will do a lot in giving your lady parts a fresh smell.
Mangoes and fruits in the citrus family like oranges, grapes and lemon will help a lot too. The same applies to vegetables.

Stay away from too much sugar
Excess sugar makes a woman prone to yeast infections. Yeast is a microbe that acts in the presence of sugar and yeast is one of the many microbes found down there.
So when you take too much sugar, it could lead to an increase in yeast and that could make the vagina lose its balance of the microbes… and voila, an infection is on the way.

Take antibiotics with caution
Antibiotics are supposed to get rid of bad bacteria but sometimes they can go overboard especially if you do not get the dosage right.
Knowing how important bacteria balance is for the vagina, it’s important to use antibiotics with caution.

Cotton underwear please
Your lady parts like to breath, give it some space. This explains why there is a cotton lining in the crotch area of female underwear.
Nylon underwear does more harm than good. Take note.

Family / Bitter Divorce Could Affect Immune System Of Children Later In Life by johneewalker: This month on Fri 09 at 09:12am

A new study says that an acrimonious divorce between parents could affect their child’s immune system in adulthood.

Children whose parents separate and cut off communication are said to be at increased risk of colds as adults.

The study included more than 200 healthy adults who were exposed to a common cold virus.

Those whose parents lived apart and didn’t talk to each other during the participant’s childhood were found to be three times more likely to develop a cold than those whose parents remained together.

According to the study, participants whose parents separated during childhood but remained in contact were not at increased risk of catching a cold.

Michael Murphy, a researcher at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, US, said the study has given an insight into how childhood circumstances affect one later in life.

“Early life stressful experiences do something to our physiology and inflammatory processes that increase risk for poorer health and chronic illness.

“This work is a step forward in our understanding of how family stress during childhood may influence a child’s susceptibility to disease 20-40 years later,” Murphy said.

Sports / We Will Frustrate Nigeria And Shut Their Fans Up, Says S’africa’s Coach by johneewalker: This month on Fri 09 at 09:10am
Ahead of the AFCON qualifying match against Nigeria, Stuart Baxter, South Africa’s coach, says the home fans in Akwa Ibom will be key to the outcome of the encounter.

The Super Eagles have only lost once in twelve games against South Africa but Baxter believes his team can triumph if the Eagles are unable to have their way in the first 20 minutes of the game.

Once that happens, he said the fans will voice their discontent.

“If the first 20 minutes are not what they had hoped‚ then immediately the crowd will make their displeasure felt‚ then they will be baying for blood,” Baxter told The Sowetan.

“And I think that will be advantage us. I think we’ve got to shut the crowd up. That’s one of our big jobs. If we let the crowd get excited‚ and Nigeria enjoy the game‚ then I think that’s going to be a big plus for them.

“I think if we can turn that around and frustrate them a bit‚ and be better than they think‚ and have more to say than they think‚ then maybe the crowd could be a bit of a negative for them.

“I think that’s important. And maybe if Nigeria could have chosen‚ they might not really have wanted to play us in the first game at home.

“Because then there is the scenario that if they lose they’re going to be under tremendous pressure from the beginning.

“So we have to use that. With the mental part of the game‚ the boys have to feel that this is one where we can spoil the party a bit. We can make it difficult for Nigeria.

“It will be big. The critical phases of the game are always important‚ and I think the first period in this game is a big one.

“Because that will either bring the crowd into the game‚ or it will take them out a bit.

The coach said South Africa’s qualification for the 2015 AFCON at the expense of the Super Eagles has helped reduced the perceived psychological advantage.

“I think that having been there and having gone through it‚ it gives the players a sense of calm. I don’t think we fear Nigeria as much as respect them‚” the coach said.

“The players have gone there‚ they’ve gone through the mill so to speak. They’re thinking that they have gone there‚ and maybe if they had hung on they could have gotten the result.”

Politics / Restructuring Nigeria Not Buhari’s Priority- Lai Mohammed by johneewalker: This month on Fri 09 at 09:05am
Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture, says restructuring the country is not a priority for the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The minister said this in an interview on an Africa Independent Television (AIT) programme on Thursday.

He said with the high level of corruption, economic downturn, insecurity and the activities of Boko Haram, the government could not have contemplated restructuring.

He said the focus of the government which also formed the basis of its campaign was to fight corruption and insecurity and to fix the economy.

The minister said two years after its inauguration, the administration has succeeded on the three campaign promises.

He also said that the secession messages and hate speeches flying around were not new to the government because it had envisaged it and had been sensitising Nigerians to its dangers.

He asked Nigerians to go about their lawful business and disregard any threat from any quarters. He said the government was capable of protecting lives and property of all Nigerians wherever they reside.

Mohammed added that government would “deal decisively” with anyone or group that disturbs the peace of the nation.

He said that contrary to perception, the government’s anti-corruption fight was not targeted at the opposition.

He said corruption would fight back anywhere there was an attempt to fight it; so, the tensions being experienced in the country could be linked to it.

According to him, before the Buhari government came on stream, “corruption was so alarming that 55 persons stole N1.35 trillion in seven years”.

He added that N700 billion was appropriated and released to the ministry of Niger Delta affairs between 2009 and 2015 for road construction and that “from record made available, N453 billion were paid to contractors, who did not do up eight per cent of the construction works given to them”.

The minister said the record also showed that the contracts were “over inflated to the level that a kilometre of road was awarded for between N300 million to N1.2 billion”.

“Such was the level of corruption that the previous administration left N1.7 trillion debts owed to local contractors,” he said.

“Beyond cleaning the mess left by the precious administration, the government had been spending massively on infrastructure particularly roads, railways and power.

“The government in the last two years had constructed 369 kilometres of roads, empowered 542 local contractors and created 17,000 direct jobs and 50,000 indirect jobs.”

He further said the entire justice system of the country needs overhauling “to ensure prompt and effective prosecution”.

He solicited the support of every Nigerian, the judiciary and lawyers in particular for the success of the anti-corruption war.

On power, Mohammed said the government “did not know the enormity of the flaws in the privatisation process of the sector by the previous administration”.

He said the process “was so corruptly done that the so called investors did not have the capacity in term of finance and manpower”.

According to him, the option would had been to cancel the entire privatisation process “but for the wrong signal such decision would sent to the global investment community about the country”.
Despite the flaw, the government improved generation from 2,690 megawatts it inherited to 5,040 megawatts in February 2016,” he said.

“The drop in generation was as a result of the pipelines destruction in Forcados, which government was fixing and the current power generation was 4000 megawatts.”

He added that the government had also signed 13 power generation agreements on solar “which would contribute 10,000 megawatts to the national grid”.

Politics / Northern Youth Coalition Insists: We Don’t Want Igbo In Nigeria by johneewalker: This month on Fri 09 at 09:00am
Despite the widespread condemnation that trailed their move to evict the Igbo out of the north, the northern youth coalition has insisted that those from the ethnic group must leave Nigeria.

Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna state, had ordered their arrest, while Kashim Shettima, governor of Borno, said their position did not represent the view of the north.

Different stakeholders also condemned the group which gave Igbo until October 1 to vacate the north.

But in a statement on Thursday, the youth who stood their ground said they had received sympathy across the country.

They denied considering violence as a means of achieving their aim, accusing “merchants of mischief” of misrepresenting their thoughts.

“In strict observance of that tradition we never employ violence as a means of pursuing our interest and at every opportunity, we opt for peaceful engagements and implore people to eschew violence in all its ramifications,” the coalition said in a statement signed by Abdulazeez Suleiman, one of its leaders.

“This informs why, a majority of discerning Nigerians, not necessarily northerners alone, understood and identified with our express call for the Biafrans to be allowed to actualise their long-held secessionist aspiration.

“We restate that we have never called anybody to violence and that people should discountenance the elements of fear and threat introduced by the distortions of merchants of mischief.

“We wholeheartedly endorse the moves made variously by our leaders to allay those fears and urge people to be peaceful and law-abiding while at the same time resolutely insisting on having the right thing done by allowing the Igbo to have and move to their dream country in accordance with the universal fundamental right to self-determination.

“We restate our determination and commitment to ensuring that the north will never partake in any contrived arrangement that would still have the Biafran Igbo as a component.:

The groups called on the federal government and international orgniasation to facilitate a referendum that would quicken the exit of the Igbo.

“We reiterate our call on Nigerian authorities and recognised international bodies such as the ECOWAS, AU and UN to hasten the initiation of the process for the final actualisation of the Biafran nation and with it the excision of the Igbo out of the present federation,” the statement read.

Despite the minor distortions that caused some measure of anxiety, we make bold to say that the cheerful responses to our position which flowed through the internet and by way of personal telephone conversations nationally and universally has resonated that peace-loving Nigerians who have been tormented and menaced by the irredentist proclivities of the Igbos are overwhelmingly desirous to put an end to it.

“As we acknowledge this outpouring of patriotic support across the nation, we implore people, particularly our cultured northerners to remain restraint in the face of any provocation from any quarter and to debate intelligently.

“We assure them that we shall be firm and resolute in honestly and painstakingly pursuing what we all know is a noble and just cause without hurting anyone.”

Education / Jamb Raises The Alarm On Scores Upgrade Scam On Facebook by johneewalker: This month on Fri 09 at 08:52am

Is-haq Oloyede, registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), has distanced the body from the scam on the upgrade of scores for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates.

The JAMB registrar said he has nothing to do with the scam being perpetrated with his name on Facebook.

He made this known in a statement released by Fabian Benjamin, head of information, JAMB.

Oloyede said the UTME results released by JAMB were a true reflection of the performance of candidates during the examination.

He said the board does not intend to review scores and has not been directed by the government to do so.

“The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has dissociated itself from the ongoing scam on a Facebook account calling for candidates desirous of upgrade of scores in the 2017 Unified Tertiary matriculation Examination,” the statement read.

“The fake statement, which was purportedly signed by the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, gave the list of beneficiaries of the said upgrade and the categories of score with a telephone number that did not belong to the Registrar.

“The board wishes to state unequivocally that the statement was not from JAMB, the Registrar, Oloyede, or any of its offices nor has he authorised any persons or group to post such an inglorious request and statement.

“The board therefore wants to state that the results received by candidates from the 2017 UTME were the true reflection of their performance after going through a full – proof scoring mechanisms and as such, it did not intend to review the scores or commissioned anybody to do that. The board has also not been directed by any organ of government to do so.

“The board’s examination is not a fail or pass examination as there are other variables that are considered outside the examination to arrive at a successful admission. There is no need to be desperate at getting “high” scores as being touted by fraudulent characters is not a guarantee for admission.”

Politics / Efcc Files Corruption Charges Against Recalled Judges by johneewalker: This month on Fri 09 at 08:47am
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed corruption charges against two federal high court judges whom the National Judicial Council (NJC) recalled.

Last Saturday, the NJC announced the recall of six out of eight judges accused of corruption.

It said the government failed to file charges against five of the judges months after their arrest and suspension; hence its decision to recall them.

The government had criticised the decision, vowing to take action against the judges.

On Thursday, the EFCC filed 14-count charges of unlawful enrichment against Hyeladzira Nganjiwa, a judge in the federal high court, Lagos.

In the charge sheet seen by TheCable, the anti-graft agency alleged that the judge had a significant increase in his assets that he could not reasonably explain in relation to his lawful income.

Also, the EFCC filed four-count charges of corruption and attempting to pervert the course of justice against Mohammed Yunusa, a judge in the federal high court, Lagos.

All the charges were filed at the Lagos state high court.

Adeniyi Ademola, one of the judges prosecuted by the federal government, was discharged and acquitted of all charges against him by an Abuja high court. But the government said it would appeal against the judgment of the court.

He resumed duties on Wednesday.

Business / Agric Booms As Nigeria Now Exports More Than It Imports by johneewalker: This month on Fri 09 at 08:40am
Latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics show that Nigeria’s trade value in export is now more than the value of its import as agricultural exports increased by 82 percent in Q1 2017.

The export earnings from agricultural goods stood at N30 billion. These exports were driven by Sesame seeds, whose exports were above N5 billion.

This is in line with the government’s current drive for improved agricultural systems and self-sufficiency in food products.

Nigeria’s trade volume hit N5.29 trillion, as import decreased to N2.286 trillion and export increased to N3.0059 trillion.

“Total exports for the period under review stood at N3,005.9 billion, while total imports stood at N2,286.5 billion. The total value of Nigeria’s merchandise trade at the end of Q1, 2017 was N5,292.4 billion,” NBS said.

“This represented a slight increase of 0.1% relative to the value of N5,286.6 billion recorded in the preceding quarter. The marginal rise in exports, coupled with a slight decrease in imports brought the country’s trade balance to N719.4 billion during the period, up from N671.3 billion. This represents the second consecutive positive trade balance after 4 quarter of negative trade balance.”

Crude oil accounted for the largest share of total trade with 44.91 percent, followed by other oil products (23.37%), manufactured products (21.93%), raw materials (5.12%) and agricultural products (4.35%).

The bureau said that major export trading partners to the country in the quarter were India, US, Spain, Netherlands and France.

The bureau said that India was the largest export partner to Nigeria which accounted for 22.24 per cent of export followed by the US was 13.86 per cent and Spain accounted 10.81 per cent.

Other partners, it said, were Netherlands which accounted for 8.32 per cent and France accounted for 6.5 per cent.

It said that other products exported by Nigeria included “prepared foodstuffs; beverages spirits and vinegar; tobacco” valued at N46.5 billion or 1.5 per cent, and vehicles, aircraft and parts thereof; vessels worth N 25.1 billion or 0.8 per cent.

Meanwhile, the bureau stated that China topped the major import trading partners of the country of 16.79 per cent; Belgium 14.88 per cent; Netherlands 10.80 per cent; U. S. 8.07 per cent; and India 4.53 per cent.

It said that the major traded agricultural products to the countries were Sesame seed, Soya Beans, Frozen shrimps and prawn, cashew nuts in shell and crude palm kernel oil.
